Max, an eight-to-nine month old cat, was shot in the chest with a field tip arrow commonly used for hunting wild animals according to the Humane Society.
Poor Max seen here with the arrow in his chest |
The couple rushed Max to the Riverlands Vet Clinic for emergency medical care. The arrow did passed through the cat's fur and didn't hit any organs, veins or arteries according to the attending veterinarian. If it had, Max would have most likely died.
Authorities arrested Cody Dupre, 318 St. Anthony St., and booked him with cruelty to animals. They say he told them he shot Max simply because it was on his property.
The cat was taken to Riverlands Veterinary Clinic in LaPlace where the doctor was able to remove the arrow, and has kept the animal under medical supervision, according to a Sheriff's Office statement.
Poor Max, recovering after surgery |
Dupre turned himself in Wednesday and bond was set at $30,000. He was released Thursday after a relative posted a $1,000 cash bond.
Unfortunately, to add insult to their poor cat's injuries, officers also cited Dolly and John Dicken for breaking the parish's leash laws by allowing Max to roam outside.
They seriously gave these poor people a ticket?? This earns the St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office a "bad cop" label.
A GoFundMe account was set up for Max. People generously donated more than enough needed to pay for Max's surgeries and follow-up care.

I grew up in this community. Parish law states cats cannot be left to roam free outside. Cats are highly effective predators and can decimate local bird, reptile, and amphibian populations... if the owners had followed the law, the cat would have been kept safe from sociopaths like Cody Dupre as well as kept the local wildlife safe from Max’s deadly claws and jaws . Sherif Champagne is a fair and just official and his deputies are equally outstanding. Part of being a pet owner is following local laws, they are there for a reason. I do still feel terrible for them and for Max. But, knowing my hometown, the judge probably threw the ticket out as a warning considering the circumstances...
