Georgia: Thomas Co. animal shelter facing charges after rescuing over 70 dogs

GEORGIA -- An animal shelter in Thomasville is facing civil action after rescuing over 70 animals from a property in Brooks County back in March.

As previously reported, Thomasville Thomas County Humane society rescued the dogs from 78 year-old Jerry McCloud's two-acre property.

Note: Other news sources are spelling his name Jerry McLeod.

But now, McCloud is suing the shelter and denying the fact that he surrender the animals to the humane society and demanding the dogs back.

Executive director, Ed Williams, says the shelter has never faced legal action like this before, and that he can’t believe they are being sued for simply doing their job.

"We're all the same, just very disappointed that we have to divert our attention and take time to fight this legal claim," says Williams.

Williams says they have successfully transferred 47 dogs to another shelter to help get adoptions and that more than half of the animals seized have already found their forever homes. The judge ordered that the shelter comply with McCloud's open records request.

This case is expected to continue in a month.
