Injustice in Virginia: Corey Ridley, 37, gets NO jail time after leaving his Beagle to die locked in a crate and thrown into a ditch

This is pathetic. Previously, I had always held the state of Virginia up as an example of how other states should enforce their animal cruelty laws. Seems like the state has been taken over by people who encourage and excuse abuse and neglect of innocent animals in the state of Virginia. Shameful.

VIRGINIA -- A man was found guilty on two charges after a dog was dumped in a Virginia Beach ditch last month.

Corey Alexander Ridley, 37, was found guilty of animal cruelty and animal abandonment, both misdemeanors.

He was fined $250 plus court costs and will not serve any jail time.

Ridley was charged after animal control officers said they found his dog left to die inside a locked pet crate which had been thrown into a ditch on Winston Avenue. The female Beagle was also suffering from a large, untreated tumor.

The dog, who was named Patty, has since had the tumor removed, been spayed and has been adopted.
