Michigan: Kalamazoo man speaks out following pit bull attack

MICHIGAN -- A Kalamazoo man was hospitalized after being attacked by a dog, and Thursday, he shared with us the story of his nightmare.

It's an update to a story we first brought you on Wednesday evening.

Police are still trying to identify the owner of the dog.

On Thursday, we sat down with Ron Bardo, who is recovering in the hospital after the dog bit him numerous time.

Ron Bardo is still in the hospital today, with his arms heavily wrapped in bandages. He says he feels well despite being viciously attacked yesterday by a dog.

"Pit bull found me. No warning, or maybe minuscule, it's right there; I didn't see it until it basically happened," Bardo said.

The 60-year-old had been riding his bike home after running an errand. He was about three blocks from home, when he says the pit bull came out of nowhere.

"It would maybe stop for a second and then go right back at it," Bardo said.

Neighbors came out and tried to get the dog to let go, but it kept biting Bardo. Police came and had to shoot and kill the dog to get it off of him.

"I heard one gunshot and I heard it yelp. And then it ran off into somebody's yard and they finished the job," Bardo said.

Bardo says he feels lucky to be alive. And would like the owners of the dog to be found or come forward. He has severe bites to both arms, and had surgery yesterday. There may be yet another surgery to repair tendons.

"I can move them, which is the first thing I noticed then I can move everything. They hurt, they're tingly, but I can move them. Figured that was a good start right there," he said.
