PENNSYLVANIA -- A Philipsburg woman allegedly left a cat in a cooler to die, according to a criminal complaint.
State police at Philipsburg charged Amanda Marie Schoen, 27, on July 7 with two counts of animal cruelty and killing/maiming a domestic animal.
A state trooper interviewed family members about the cat’s death on Feb. 5, five days after it went missing. One family member said she could smell the odor of a dead animal in her dining room and found the cat, Lucky, latched shut in a cooler. The family member told police she believed Schoen killed the cat, according to the criminal complaint.
Schoen, the family member said, “was off her medication and not acting right,” according the criminal complaint.
Schoen told police she recalled putting the cat in the cooler after it tried to bite her but said she did not hurt the cat.
Police said in the criminal complaint that the cat most likely suffocated to death.
