What’s more, Ruan Oliver (28) and Tayla Templeton (19) were trying to find the owners of the dogs when they were attacked.
Ruan suffered ten puncture wounds on his arm and calf, while his girlfriend Tayla, suffered 13 puncture wounds to her thigh and calf in the attack.
The attack was halted by two passing motorists, one of whom, had to hit the dogs with a stick to chase them away. Through the traumatic ordeal Ruan shielded his girlfriend from the attack by holding her in a bear hug fashion.
“There was a commotion outside our gate and we went to investigate and found three dogs, two Rottweilers and another small brown dog. They were really friendly, their tails were wagging. There was no aggression from them. We walked with them to find their owners and they followed.
"When we got on to Blackburn Road, the little dog tried to run across the road, I managed to rescue him and the minute me and Tayla separated, that’s when the dogs attacked."
Tayla, said she thought they were going to die because there was no let-up in the attack.
“If it wasn’t for Carl Klopper and another man in an Corsa bakkie who stopped to help, we would have been dead. I’m so thankful they intervened. Carl hit the dogs with a stick and the one attacking me, released me. I tried to run across the road and the dog again tried to chase me.
Tayla, who is diabetic, is currently at Gateway Private Hospital and has received tetanus and rabies shots. Ruan said he later heard the dogs had attacked an elderly couple not far from the scene of the first attack.
