Indiana: Basset Hound severely attacked by pit bull

INDIANA -- "My brother's dog after a pit bull attacked her yesterday. My brother also had to go to the hospital. Both were traumatized. Please pray for comfort and healing for both of them. This last week has been awful for my mom and her family."

UPDATE #1:
"so reveled vet will be assessing Abby today shes had a few set backs this week, im hoping it good news...."

UPDATE #2:
"hi everyone, update on Abby, she can not hold the stitches, her tissue and mussel is gone at sight of wounds, so it is plan b, plan b is not bad for Abby its just plan a would have been faster for her body to heal so instead of two weeks of recover-er we are talking weeks......it in tails hydrotherapy i was not familiar with this till i had a crash course yesterday, let me just say.....care-giving that i have done in the past will be extremely helpful to now care for Abigail!"

"the hardest part for me is to see her open wounds and not get a bad stomach ache, her wounds are big and deep and now all open! ugh, everyone who has prayed for Abby please continue, i know people say this all the time that their dogs are so sweet but Abby really really is..... pray that she doesn't lose her ear ( they are concerned that the weight of those big ears will hinder the healing of the wound above her ear....) but pray for me too please...that i may find and muster the strength to be able to clean the wounds...its not easy for me....i lov you all for thinking of derrick and i."

COMMENTS FROM RELATIVES AND FRIENDS:
Many people believe the dog is dangerous and should be put down.

"I'm a huge dog lover and I believe that that an attack like that unprovoked should lead to the dog getting put down 😞 it will do it again and next time it might be a kid"

"i just want everyone to know the person who owns the dog that bit abby is a very very responsible pet owner, the gate was latched shut, the force of two dogs pushed that latch open and for some reason that dog so abby as a threat ! it was a freak accident that that dog got loose! she loves her dog as much as we lov ours!!!!"

"But her dog sent two people (herself included because it did not respond to her her trying to pry it off Abby) and a dog to the hospital. Whether she's responsible or not or loves the dog or not isn't the issue. It's how unpredictable and dangerous the dog is. There needs to be consequences for its actions. So it doesn't happen again. Whether that means a safety plan for the gate and the screen door so the dog can't push through, to be muzzled when outside, something. It was a freak accident, a terrible horrible thing. That can't happen again. Even though the dog has never been violent before, now it has. Abby was just walking by, sweet as can be, there was no threat there, and the fact that dog saw her as a threat shows the thinking errors of that dog. Abby and Derrick were the victim of a terrible incident and should be treated as such. I hate seeing Derrick minimize it and feel guilty like he is somehow at fault for walking his dog or not being able to protect her. He should have never been in that position to begin with."
