Nevada: Two dogs removed from Las Vegas home after one found with duct tape around mouth

NEVADA -- This was originally posted on CopBlock.org

The person who posted it was scared to report the animal abuse because they said the dog's owner works in law enforcement and they were worried about retaliation. Others offered to call for them, but the concerned neighbor eventually called Animal Control, only to be told apparently that it was no big deal as long as the dog could drink water(!).

The Las Vegas Review-Journal newspaper recently said Vegas is experiencing record heat -- a high of 115 degrees recently (and a low of 91 degrees!). Absolutely no excuse to leave a dog outside 24/7 with its mouth taped shut like this.

It appears Animal Control went out really late Friday night - midnight or later - and seized the two dogs. I'm surprised they did this at such a late hour, but KTNV must've been tipped off so their cameras rolling likely had something to do with Animal Control's quick action (rather than them simply leaving a note on the door and leaving).

CopBlock says the owner is a Corrections Sergeant for Las Vegas Metro Police Department. I'm not listing his name here because KTNV hasn't yet, but you can check CopBlock.org if you want to know who the alleged owner is.

ORIGINAL STORY:
Animal cruelty detectives are investigating Friday night (August 5, 2016) after hearing reports of a dog with tape around its mouth near Alexander Road and Torrey Pines Drive.

Las Vegas police arrived at the scene after animal control officers determined that the incident could be a felony case of animal cruelty.

The animal has worked free from the tape and is currently safe.

Animal cruelty detectives will continue their investigation. Police say they have not yet heard from the dog's owner.

UPDATE TO STORY:
Animal Control removed two dogs from the property early Saturday morning (August 6, 2016).

Neighbors are shocked and horrified about one of the dogs being found with duct tape wrapped around his mouth.

Jamie McQuade lives next door and knows the dog, Taz, as well as his owner.

"He's a really good dog," she said. "He doesn't bark much and when I saw his mouth taped shut, I was really confused, really sad and upset for him."

McQuade says the owner had trained Taz not to bark at her or her family.

The video clip says the other dog's name is Dooley and it appears to be an Australian Shepherd type of dog.
