Maryland: Dog dies after being set on fire in trash bag

MARYLAND -- A dog died after being set on fire inside a trash bag in northeast Baltimore, police said.

Police said officers responded at 12:30 a.m. July 27 to the 6800 block of Hamlet Avenue on a report of a fire. When officers arrived, firefighters told them that they had found a bag on fire.

After the fire was extinguished, firefighters found a dog inside the bag. The dog, described as a small terrier mix, was pronounced dead on the scene and animal control was called to the location.

Investigators believe that someone put the dog inside the bag and set it on fire before leaving the scene.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the police animal abuse unit at 410-396-2400. Callers can remain anonymous, police said.
