North Carolina: Seven dogs impounded after man and his two young daughters attacked

NORTH CAROLINA -- Seven dogs have been quarantined at the animal control offices in Statesville after a man and his two daughters were attacked.

According to animal control reports, the attack happened Thursday evening along the 400-block of Shepherd Road in Mooresville.

A man and his two daughters were reportedly attacked and suffered bite wounds. One of the girls, a 5-year-old, has serious injuries from “multiple bite wounds.”

Animal Services Director Brad Gates said the injured family members were visiting a construction site on the property and that’s when they were attacked.

The dogs’ owner, Terrell Baker, lives on the site.

Animal control officers impounded the animals Friday afternoon after Baker refused to surrender the dogs voluntarily. He told investigators he was in the shower when the attack happened, but insisted that two of the dogs were not involved in the attack.

All seven were impounded because there was no evidence to eliminate any of the dogs from the attack. The animals were taken by animal control Friday afternoon and appeared to be Australian Cattle mixed breeds.

“We just hate to see this kind of thing happen. It’s sad for everybody concerned,” Gates said. “They severely injured a person in an unprovoked attack.”

Baker was able to show rabies certificates on two of the dogs and tags for the other five.

The dogs, Rascal, Fattie, Chyanne, Bone Bone, Blue Bell, Babie Girl and Puppy, will most likely be put down after being held in quarantine for ten days, unless Baker appeals. He has three days.
