New York: Nevin Cutting, 22, shot and killed a cow then dragged its body off only to abandon it to rot

NEW YORK -- On September 27, 2016, New York State Police at Sidney arrested Nevin D. Cutting, 22, of Sidney, NY for the felonies of aggravated cruelty to animals, criminal mischief 2nd degree and the misdemeanor of illegally discharging a firearm.

On September 19, 2016, troopers responded to the report of a dead cow that had been found near Pine Hill State Land in the Town of Sidney.


An investigation determined that for an unknown reason, Cutting had shot and killed a cow that belong to a farm on Pine Hill State Road in the Town of Sidney.

He did not own this cow or have permission to shoot it.

Cutting then dragged the carcass to nearby state land where he left it on the ground.  The cow was valued at about $2,000.

Cutting was arraigned in the Town of Masonville court and was remanded to the Delaware County jail in lieu of $1,500 cash bail or $3,000 property bond.  His next court date in the town of Sidney is on October 11, 2016.

Additional charges are pending from the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation.
