CALIFORNIA -- A Turlock man is facing felony criminal charges after attacking his father with a broom handle and hitting a small dog.
Aaron Renteria, 30, remains in custody at the Stanislaus County Jail on felony charges of aggravated assault and inflicting cruelty to an animal. He is being held in lieu of a $50,000 bail.
The violent incident was sparked over loud music, according to the police report.
Around 5 p.m. Tuesday the Turlock Police Department responded to a report of an assault in progress at a home in the 1900 block of La Linda Court, said Turlock Police spokesperson Officer Steve Rodrigues.
The man said he went outside to get away from his son, but went back in the home when he heard the family dog yelping in pain.
Inside the home the man was confronted by his son, who allegedly punched him four or five times, Rodrigues said.
The man told the officers he went back outside, but that his son followed him and began striking him repeatedly with a broom handle. The man had injuries to his face, neck, and elbows and complained of pain to his jaw, but declined medical treatment at the scene.
Renteria was taken into custody at the residence without incident. He is scheduled for a pretrial hearing in Stanislaus County Superior Court on Wednesday.
