Kansas: Kristin Kaufman, 42, charged with torturing and killing cat

KANSAS -- A 42-year-old Johnson County man has been charged with animal cruelty following the death of a cat.

Kristin Kauffman faced a Johnson County judge Monday afternoon.

The Overland Park Police Department would not go into details and neither would prosecutors.

However, they have accused Kaufman of killing a cat inside a home on Reeder Road.

The Johnson County District Attorneys office's charging document accuses Kaufman of "unlawfully, knowingly, maliciously and feloniously kill, injure, maim, torture, burn or mutilate any animal, a non-grid non-person felony."

One condition of Kaufman's bond is that he's not allowed to stay inside a home where there are any animals.
