United Kingdom: Schoolboy left bloodied after being attacked by ‘out of control’ Greyhound

UNITED KINGDOM -- A nine-year-old schoolboy was left with a punctured leg after an 'out of control' greyhound bit his leg while he was playing football.

Nathan Donoghue, of Washington, Tyne and Wear, was in a park when the dog attacked him, before growling and barking then biting him twice more.

The tearful boy was left bloodied and in shock by the attack – and his parents Vince and Michele have been unable to find the dog’s owner since it happened.

Mr Donoghue said: ‘The dog started running towards Nathan probably because of his ball, and the guy shouted for the dog to come back but it didn’t listen.

‘Nathan thought walking towards the owner will get the dog to follow, so he starts moving towards him. But as gets about halfway, the dog bit him on his leg.

‘After stopping for a bit, he starts walking to the owner again and the dog starts growling and barking before biting him twice more. It got his arm and his left thigh. At this point Nathan started running with tears in his eyes towards the guy and shouting for help.’

Nathan’s friend rushed to get help, and the shocked Biddick Primary School pupil was taken to a walk-in centre for treatment to bites on his arms and legs.

But heavy goods driver Mr Donoghue, 44, was relieved the injuries were not as severe as they could have been.

‘He was obviously shaken up by what happened and I still think he is in a little shock, but he is walking about okay now,’ the boy's father said.

Nathan’s parents haven’t found the dog owner, but Mrs Donogue has posted pictures of the injuries on Facebook in an attempt to track him down.

If discovered, the parents want the man and his dog punished for the attack.

Mr Donogue added: ‘We want criminal action to be taken against the owner. It has attacked a young boy simply walking towards the owner.

‘It has bit him about five times. What will happen next time, especially if it attacks a smaller child?”
