Virginia: Portsmouth Animal Control Officer uses butter to save tiny snake’s life

VIRGINIA -- A Portsmouth Animal Control Officer’s quick thinking helped save the life of a small snake.

On October 24, Animal Control Officer Quintana was called to the 6200 block of Centenary Drive after the little snake was caught in a glue trap inside a home.

When Officer Quintana arrived, she realized the snake was still alive.

She quickly took the snake back to her office and used butter to free the snake from the glue trap, saving the animal’s life.

“As you can see from the pictures, the snake was really stuck on the trap and was extremely happy once he was freed by these diligent Animal Control Officers,” Portsmouth Police said in an Instagram post.

The snake was returned to the outdoors on Tuesday.

Instagram Post:
A day in the Life of an Animal Control Officer.... Each and every day our Animal Control Officers respond to calls for sick, injured or vicious animals, including wild life.

On Monday, October 24, 2016, Animal Control Officer Quintana responded to the 6200 block of Centenary Drive for a small snake found inside a home on a glue trap.

Once on scene, Officer Quintana realized the snake was still alive and took the snake back to her office to try and save its life.

"Thanks Officer Quintana for saving my life!"

After Officer Quintana returned to the office, she and Animal Control Officer McLeod used butter to help free the snake from the glue trap and save its life.

As you can see from the pictures, the snake was really stuck on the trap and was extremely happy once he was freed by these diligent Animal Control Officers. The snake was then returned to the outdoors today.

Our Animal Control Officers want to remind citizens that although glue traps appear to be a "safe and humane" way to capture unwanted pests and small animals such as snakes and mice, glue traps are actually more inhumane and cruel.
