Mississippi: Pit bull attacks 2 children, 1 flown to hospital - may lose his leg

MISSISSIPPI -- A 15 year old and his 5 year old brother were injured Thursday evening after officials say they were attacked by a pit bull named Cleo.

According to grandmother Kimberly Heidel, the dog charged at the boys after school on Thursday near their home in the 2500 block of Shady Lane.

 
  

The teenager, Jaxon Ronsonet, was able to grab his brother out of harms way, but suffered suffered severe injuries to his arms and legs. The 5 year old was bitten on his bottom, foot, and in the face.

Both boys were taken to a local hospital for treatment, but the 15 year old had to be flown to a specialty hospital by helicopter due to the severity of his injuries. The extent of the younger brother's injuries is not known at this time.




The grandmother says the animal lives at a home next door to the boys, and claims its owners do not properly take care of the pit bull.

Travis Holloway lives next door with 2 pit bulls. He says the he doesn't own the pit bull which attacked the boys - that it belongs to his brother and that he was just "dog sitting" it.

The dog, who was not on a leash at the time of the attack, was taken into custody by the Biloxi Police Animal Control.
