OHIO -- A Mount Vernon woman is charged in Mount Vernon Municipal Court for housing more than two dozen pets in a residence filled with feces.
Wendy Wise, 41, is charged with nine counts of cruelty to companion animals, a second-degree misdemeanor. The charges stem from Oct. 7, when Wise was found to have 11 dogs, eight cats, a chinchilla, two rats, a hedgehog, a bird, a skunk and a bearded dragon in her residence. According to Knox County Dog Warden reports, the animals were located inside the home, which was filled with “old and fresh feces.” The animals were in cages with layers of feces, and feces in the kitchen were “smeared on the linoleum that made walking extremely difficult,” according to reports.
A dead kitten was also found inside the residence. The animals were removed from the residence except for a white Chihuahua that is Wise’s therapy dog. Wise requested three of the cats be returned to her, according to reports.
Wise had cleaned up the residence as of Oct. 17, according to reports.
Wise is scheduled for arraignment on the charges Nov. 15.
