OHIO -- A Mount Vernon woman pleaded no contest to charges that she kept more than 20 animals in a feces-filled home.
Wendy Wise, 41, pleaded no contest Tuesday in Mount Vernon Municipal Court to nine counts of cruelty to animals. Each charge is a second-degree misdemeanor carrying up to 90 days in jail.
The charges stem from Oct. 7, when Wise was found to have 11 dogs, eight cats, a chinchilla, two rats, a hedgehog, a bird, a skunk and a bearded dragon in her residence. A dead kitten was also inside the residence.
The residence was filled with old and new feces, with feces so smeared on the kitchen floor that a deputy dog warden had difficulty walking on it, according to Knox County Dog Warden reports. Some of the animals were in cages that were filled with feces.
The animals were removed from the home.
Municipal Court Judge John Thatcher ordered a pre-sentence investigation and scheduled sentencing for Dec. 13
