On Saturday, deputies responded to a vehicle accident call on Highway 47.
Upon arrival, deputies found a pit bull in a cage in the back of 37-year-old James Curtis Woods' pickup, according to a press release statement from Sheriff Eddie Scott.
Scott said the pit bull was bleeding and had injuries typical of dog fighting. The dog was turned over to West Point Animal Control for treatment.
He is still at the Clay County Detention Center, according to jail personnel. His bond has been set at $21,000.
Drug arrest
In a separate incident, a traffic stop led to deputies finding more than $2,000 worth of drugs.
Deputies responded to a suspicious vehicle report on Friday led to the arrest of 35-year-old Scottie Green on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
According to the release, Green also had an outstanding warrant for possession of a controlled substance -- pyrrolidinopentiophenone (MDMA).
Green was booked into the Clay County Detention Center and is out on $20,000 bond. His initial court appearance is set for May 4.
Scott said both investigations are ongoing and requested anyone with information contact CCSO at 662-494-2896 or Golden Triangle Crimestoppers at 1-800-530-7151.
