Texas: Anthony Wills, 48, hanged his dog by its leash/collar, kicked it several times, threw it onto the ground and stomped on it repeatedly

TEXAS -- A Wichita Falls man has been charged with cruelty to non-livestock animals for reportedly mistreating a dog.

Anthony Tyrone Wills, 48, remained in Wichita County Jail Wednesday afternoon in lieu of $2,500.

According to a probable cause affidavit:

Around 8:24 p.m. on May 2, officers were sent to an apartment complex in the 500 block of Kemp Boulevard for a disturbance. When they arrived, multiple subjects were outside involved in a fight that began over the mistreatment of a dog.

After about 15-20 people were separated, officers began to interview the various individuals. One witness said she first heard the terrier mix belonging to Wills yelping in pain, so she went outside to see what was happening.

She then saw Wills holding the dog up in the air about a foot off the ground by a leash attached to its collar and kicking the dog several times. She then saw him throw the dog on the porch and stomp on it.

An officer went to check on the dog and found it lying on its left side favoring its right rear leg, which appeared to be broken or displaced around the hip. The dog would not let anyone near him and would continue to yelp in pain or growl if officers got close.

Animal control was contacted and responded to the scene. They discovered it had severe abdominal injuries, possibly internal injuries and a broken right leg.

Wills told officers he was angry because the dog had had an accident inside the apartment (because Wills was too lazy to take the dog out to use the bathroom. Look at him. That POS probably doesn't make it much farther than from the fridge to the sofa  in a day let alone take his dog out for a walk around the apartment complex.)

For some reason, officers decided on-scene that there was "no saving" the dog and made the decision that they would take it to the shelter and euthanize it. Why wasn't a licensed vet the person to make that decision?? Bad cop and bad shelter tags until I hear more. Why didn't they try to save this dog?

Wills was arrested for felony animal cruelty to a non-livestock animal and is currently being held in the Wichita County Jail. His bond has been set at $2,500.
