Colorado: Family's Pit Bull mix waits until Dad went into the other room and then attacked one-year-old baby boy, leaving him with "severe injuries to his face, head and neck"

COLORADO -- A 1-year-old had to be rushed to hospital on Tuesday night after he was attacked by the family dog.

Pueblo Animal Law Enforcement officers were called to the 2400 block of Winnipeg St. at around 6 p.m.

The boy’s father told officers that while he was in the other room the family dog, a pit bull mix, was in the living room with the child and attacked him.

The neighbors hear screams and called 9-1-1.

The child was taken to a local hospital with severe injuries to his head, face, and neck and was later flown to a hospital in Denver and is expected to undergo surgery on Wednesday.

The dog was handed over to Pueblo Animal Services and was euthanized.

Rabies testing will be conducted through the Pueblo City/County Health Department.

This is the second serious incident reported to Pueblo Animal Services in less than a week.
