Texas: Neighbors come to rescue after woman and her baby are attacked by Pit Bull

TEXAS -- A woman and baby attacked by a dog in North Lubbock Monday night are thankful Lubbock Police and neighbors stepped in to help.

Esmeralda Perez said she didn't think she had anything to be scared of at first, but a man across the street thought otherwise when he saw a Pit Bull get increasingly aggressive toward her daughter.

"We just decided to go a different direction [on a walk[ and we're walking around the corner, and there was this black and white pit bull running after us," Perez said, "And I really wasn't scared of him [at first], but he got a little bit more aggressive."

Perez said she didn't even turn around to see where the dog was. As soon as the neighbor with a knife took control, she wanted to get away.

Soon that same neighbor was attacked by the dog himself.

Police arrived around 8:00 p.m., and encountered the aggressive dog as well. An officer eventually shot the animal in the leg in self-defense when the dog tried to attack her.

"The dog was trying to be very resistant and trying to just pounce on her," Neighbor Noah Obando said, "She had to pull out her gun and told everyone to step back."

Perez said after hearing the rest of the story, she's counting her blessings.

"Usually I have something like a stick, or a bar, or something and I didn't," Perez said, "I was like, well, the one day I don't have anything here it comes...thank God he [the dog] didn't get the baby...I wouldn't have known what to do."
