The beast, described by police as a black pit bull, attacked the pair under the awning of the OD Tobacco and Grocery on Wyckoff Ave. and Weirfield St. in Ridgewood around 10:10 p.m., according to police.
"He went crazy," said Fuoad. "He bit into her and pulled her to the ground."
Well, actually, in the video you see one of the females repeatedly approaching the Pit Bull, which the owner is clearly struggling to control. It's almost as if she's provoking it. Now I'm no fan of Pit Bulls, but she brought a lot of this on herself b/c at the beginning of the video, the dog and owner walks past the store and the dog is calmly walking with its owner. If she'd simply gone into the store, this man would've continued on its way, but I'm sure she thought she could befriend the dog and show it that she's a 'nice person'. She thought wrong.
Fuoad said the beast rolled over and dragged the terrified teen across the sidewalk. As the dog maintained its vise grip, the friend tried to pull the dog off, tugging on its leash to no avail, he said.
The crazy canine then lunged at the girl holding the leash.
"He started jerking her wrist with his mouth," said Fuoad, shaking his arm widely back and forth to demonstrate the force of the dog's wrenching bite.
This is not the owner, but he had grabbed the dog by the collar to
hold it. However, it twisted until it was able to grab his hand.
"The girl was punching the dog in the head trying to get him off. There was a lot of blood. The dog was bleeding from his mouth."
Fuoad and his friend Attia ran over as the young woman cried for help, tugging on the dog's collar and kicking it in its ribs and hind legs.
"We tried to pull the dog off but it wouldn't let go. He was very strong," Fuoad said.
Fuoad estimated the maniacal mutt maintained his bite on the young woman's arm for 4 to 5 minutes, until four police cruisers pulled up to the deli.
According to Fuoad, an officer got out of the car and hit the dog with an electric baton several times. Still, the dog was not fazed, maintaining his grip on the girl's arm as she was lying on the pavement, apparently unconscious.
"(The baton) didn't do anything," he said. "The officer had to pull his gun and shoot the dog in the neck."
Even after its death, the hellish hound's mouth remained clamped firmly upon the victim's wrist, Fuoad said.
"Another officer had to pry open his mouth with a glove," he said.
Moments later, an ambulance arrived and rushed the bloodied and shaken victims to Brookdale University Hospital where both young women are in stable condition, an FDNY spokesperson said.
Fuoad, a halal cook at a cart in Midtown, commended police for their quick response and insisted that the dog's killing was justified.
"The dog was crazy," Fuoad said. "Most dogs never act like this. It's the first time I've ever seen a dog go crazy like that."
