Illinois: Dog named Pumpkin has leg so badly mangled by attacking Pit Bull it has to be amputated

ILLINOIS -- Pumpkin is a dog I have only recently met.  A happy sweet optimistic little lady, full of energy and love. Yet sadly, her life was going to end the day she was brought into our lives.

She had been attacked by a [Pit Bull]. Her leg was torn to shreds, and she had picture wounds all over her body.

My husband was asked to help bring pumpkin to the vet for emergency care. As blood poured out of her we had little time to decide whether to help her or not. The owners could not afford the treatment and were going to euthanize her.

After talking it over for a few minutes, my husband and I decided to take on the responsibility of the bill and care of pumpkin. We do know it is a lot to take on and still have agreed to do so, however; the cost is very high, $2,800. An additional $900 will now be added as well.

Her leg is too badly injured to be saved and must be amputated in order to stop infection from killing her.

We had to borrow the money to pay for all of this by borrowing money from a very good friend and must pay this back as soon as we possibly can.

We are asking for any help possible in order to give this dog a second chance to live. Because when you think about why we all get up, work, and keep going day after day when things are tough, you realize it's all just to live.
