Pit bull attacks Fort Valley mother, child

GEORGIA -- A pit bull attacked a 23-year-old Fort Valley mother and her daughter on their front porch at 309 Charlevoix St. in Fort Valley on Friday night.

Vickie Huntley told a Peach County sheriff’s deputy that her daughter was sitting on her lap on the porch about 9:30 p.m. when Huntley told the deputy that another person, Sam Schofield, was able to get the dog away from her. Huntley said she grabbed her daughter and ran into the house, but the dog followed her into the house, the report stated.

The dog’s owner, Jerry Thomas, came and beat the dog several times and then the dog let her loose, the report stated.

Huntley recounted the story for the deputy at Peach Regional Medical Center where she was treated for several bite marks to her right arm and one to her forehead and left cheek area, the report stated.

The child had bite marks on the right side of her forehead.

Thomas told the deputy that his dog had been chained in the back yard but someone had let the dog off the chain, the report stated. Thomas told the deputy the dog was current on all shots.

Peach County Sheriff Terry Deese said the incident was referred to the Peach County Health Department
