Sevier County dog mauling victim forced to get rabies shots

TENNESSEE -- A Sevier County dog mauling victim was unable to find the animal or its owners and she now must get rabies shots.

Bernice Lennon was attacked at a flea market on Andrew Johnson Highway in Knox County. Lennon said she was petting what seemed like a friendly German Shepard when it suddenly lunged at her face. She required 35 stitches.

Lennon was hoping to find the couple that was selling the dogs at the flea market. She wanted to find out if the animal had its rabies shots. Unfortunately, no one came forward with any information about the dog or the couple. Lennon began the rabies shots Thursday afternoon.

Doctors also removed her stitches Thursday afternoon, but they said it will still take an entire year for her wounds to heal.
