Mother Charged with Child Endangerment After Dog Attack

ARKANSAS -- An Arkansas mother is headed to court after a pit bull mix attacked her 3-year-old son.

Investigators say the woman lied to adopt the dog in the first place.

Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery says the mother turned herself in and then posted a $270 bond.

In April, deputies were called to the hospital for a report of a child being attacked by a dog. Amber Moody, 21, told investigators the dog attacked her son around 8 that morning.

Investigators say the 9-month-old pit bull/terrier mix caused severe head trauma and bite wounds to the boy's face and head. The boy was airlifted to the Arkansas Children's Hospital.

"The child is back home. When we took the case to the prosecuting attorney, we found [Moody] falsified documents to get the animal and that is why charges are filed," Montgomery said. "We understand the parents have been through a lot but so has the child. He will dill with the trauma for the rest of his life."

The dog was taken to a local vet for quarantine for 14 days. The family eventually decided to put the dog down.
