CALIFORNIA -- A pit bull terrier was killed Thursday night after reportedly attacking llamas on Robinson Creek Road, the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office reported.
According to the MCSO, deputies responded to the 2500 Block of Robinson Creek Road shortly before midnight Wednesday when a woman reported that her llamas were being attacked by two pit bull terriers, and one of the llamas had been killed.
The woman said she went outside when she heard the attacks and found one of her four llamas was dead and another severely injured. She said a third llama was not injured and the fourth was missing.
When deputies arrived, the dogs had reportedly returning and were reportedly pursuing the remaining llamas. The deputies shot one of the dogs and the other ran away.
Deputies obtained the owner's name from the deceased dog's license tags and responded to the home, where they located the second dog and transported it to the Mendocino County Animal Shelter for quarantine.
A large animal veterinarian responded to treat the wounded llama, but its wounds were too severe and it had to be put down.
