14 dogs attack woman's beagle

Tucker, before the attack

CANADA -- A Manitoba woman is speaking out after her Beagle was attacked by a pack of dogs last month.

Julie Bouchard rushed her dog, Tucker, to the vet after 14 dogs from a neighbouring property cornered him in a ditch and went after him on June 8.

She said Tucker had run to the end of the driveway in her yard when the dogs attacked. Some passersby helped break up the melee and pull Tucker to safety.

Bouchard then raced to the vet.

She has since left a message asking her neighbours to chip in to help pay Tucker's $1,100 vet bill, but hasn't heard back from them yet.

Bouchard has also complained to local authorities but said the councillor brushed it off, and the rural municipality won't take action against the owners.

“I just want to prevent this whole situation from happening again, whether it's with those actual dogs or with any other dogs,” she said.

The Rural Municipality of Ste. Anne, about 30 kilometres southeast of Winnipeg's city limits, has no limit on the number of dogs someone can have.

As for Tucker, he has a number of scars and lots of stitches but is is happy, resting and expected to fully recover.
