Pit bull attacks man in wheelchair

TEXAS -- An American Pit Bull Terrier attacked a disabled man driving a motorized wheelchair on Bates Street Monday afternoon.

The chained pit bull broke free in the 1400 block of Bates, two blocks off of east Lingleville Road, and bit a man estimated to be 50-60 years old on his right forearm and left leg as he was returning to his home. He was taken to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Stephenville by ambulance.

Police called the incident an "unprovoked attack."

The dog did not have current rabies vaccinations and is now quarantined for 10 days, as required by law, at the Erath County Humane Society. A pet permit for the animal was on file at City Hall.

The dog will likely be deemed dangerous and placed under several restrictions by the Animal Control Department.
