Woman Admits to Starving, Killing Animals

NEW YORK -- The woman at the center of a cruelty case involving several dead and starving animals admits to the charges in Broome County Court.

Christine Macan

Christine Macan was arrested in July after three dogs were found dead in her home, and an additional 13 dogs were found extremely malnourished. Several smaller animals were also found dead in cages.

Macan pleaded guilty to felony aggravated cruelty to animals and will be placed on probation for the next six months. While on probation, Macan cannot own or care for any animals.

If she completes the interim probation, Macan will be allowed to withdraw her guilty plea and plead to a lesser charge, misdemeanor of failure to provide sustenance. If convicted, she would still not be able to own or care for any animals

If at any time Macan fails to complete the interim probation, a new sentencing will be scheduled for the felony charge.
