Mauled to death: family pet killed by dog yards from home

UNITED KINGDOM -- Dog owner Sarah Harrison is warning of an accident waiting to happen after her beloved pet Billy was mauled to death by another dog yards in front of her and her 14-year-old son Ryan.

“We were on our way back to our house and this dog jumped out of a garden over a fence and it just attacked my little dog Billy,” she said. “It just grabbed him.

“There was no barking or anything. It was ridiculous as it happened so fast. My little dog had no hope. It was awful.”

Sarah, aged 43, who lives in Chaldon Road in Canford Heath, believes the attacking dog was a Staffordshire bull terrier crossed with a labrador.

She said she had Billy on his leash but could not save him. People came running to help and got the other dog into a car.

“It had him in its mouth and I couldn’t do anything,” she added.

“It was horrible. They were trying to get the dog off Billy and he was shaking.  I was just screaming.”

Sarah’s husband Tony came and wrapped Billy in a towel to take him to the vets but it was too late to save the dog’s life following the attack.

Poole council is investigating the dog attack and if the case ends up in a magistrates court the animal could be put down.

Jeff Morley, regulatory services team manager at Borough of Poole, said: “We have invited the owner of the dog responsible in for formal interview and will be concluding the investigation as soon as possible.

“Dog owners are responsible for ensuring their dogs are under control at all times, whether in their property or while out walking.

“Any decision regarding the future of the dog responsible for this attack would be taken by the court.”
