CONNECTICUT -- A 57-year-old man was seriously injured from a dog bite while riding his bicycle on the part of Rails to Trails near Victoria Drive at around 11 a.m. on July 5.
Police said a woman was walking her three leashed Bernese Mountain dogs on the trail, when one of them broke loose and bit the bicyclist on the back of his calf, adding EMS transported him to the hospital for treatment.
The pet owner elected to euthanize her dog, police said.
Though the dog was validly licensed and vaccinated, police said the hospital had wanted the bite victim to have post exposure treatments for rabies. However, testing of the dog later came back negative.
The dog owner was issued a verbal warning for nuisance dog bite.
