Statue of "Ozzie the Duck" unveiled in Westfield

MASSACHUSETTS -- A duck whose death caused shock and outrage across western Massachusetts will now be forever memorialized in a statue.

Ozzie, Stanley Park's resident Muscovy duck was stomped to death back in November of 2011. A 15 year-old was charged with animal cruelty following a police investigation.

The bronze statue of Ozzie the Duck was unveiled during a ceremony in Westfield on Friday morning.

This is not the first memorial to the slain duck. Following Ozzie’s death, an anonymous donor paid for a plaque in his name to be placed near the pond at Stanley Park.

"I'm sorry that you passed away. I bet it's a lot better in Heaven than
on earth. Hope there is a lot of other ducks with you."

A makeshift memorial to Ozzie had also been in place, complete with messages from children.
