Two Women Charged With Animal Cruelty in Decatur

ALABAMA -- Police have arrested two women on animal cruelty charges in Decatur.

Police say they saw Amanda Peebles and Tracy Orr physically hurt a small dog on Wednesday.

The officer then saw Orr pick up a metal object and strike the dog in the back of the head, causing the animal to fall to the ground.

Police arrested the women. Both are charged with Cruelty to Animals 2nd degree.

The dog was released to Decatur Animal Services Animal Cruelty Investigator Miles Naylor.  Naylor tells WHNT News 19 the dog is doing well, and is healthy and playful.  Animal Services is working to gain legal custody of the dog and will later likely place him with a rescue agency out of state.
