Anne Arundel Co. man charged with ordering his pit bull to attack dog

MARYLAND -- A 36-year-old Riviera Beach man was arrested after Anne Arundel County police allege he ordered his dog to fight another dog and attacked the other dog’s owner after he tried to stop it Tuesday evening.

Jason Charles Parrotte, of the 1300 block of Riverwood Way, is charged with second-degree assault, animal cruelty, training a dog for a dog fight and failing to restrain a dangerous dog.

Police said officers responded at 8:49 p.m. to the 1300 block of Riverwood Way in Baltimore for a reported aggressive animal and assault complaint. The victim, a 52-year-old man, told police he was walking his dogs in the area of Cluster Court and Riverwood when he saw Parrotte walking his pit bull off leash.

Police said witnesses heard the suspect order his dog to attack the victim's dog, an 11-year-old labrador retriever mix. Parrotte’s dog allegedly ran toward the victim's dog and attacked it. The victim then separated the suspect's dog from his and this caused Parrotte to become angry as he indicated he wanted to videotape a dog fight, police said.

The suspect then allegedly head butted the victim in the face. The victim refused treatment, but his dog required veterinary care.

Parrotte turned himself in to the Eastern District Station on Wednesday and was transported to the commissioner where he was committed to the Anne Arundel County Detention Center on $75,000 bail.
