Chalfont dog groomer waives hearing on animal cruelty

PENNSYLVANIA -- A Chalfont man waived his preliminary hearing last week and now heads to Bucks County Court to face animal cruelty charges after the February death of a dog at the grooming facility where he previously worked.

Daniel Lewis Williams, 20, was charged with a misdemeanor count of cruelty to animals and a summary count of cruelty to animals, according to court records.

Williams was employed as a dog bather at As the Fur Flies, where a Buckingham man brought his 8-year-old Airedale terrier in February. Shortly after dropping off the dog, according to court records, the man was called back to the business because the animal was having trouble breathing. When he arrived, the dog was dead.

A necropsy revealed that the dog died from blunt force trauma.

Fred Grout, owner of As The Fur Flies in Warminster, said Williams is no longer working at the facility, and that this was an “isolated incident.”

The death of the dog sparked protests though, and a group of local pet owners furious over the situation rallied outside the facility on two occasions. Some claimed they experienced their own alleged animal cruelty incidents there and wanted it closed.

Grout’s supporters, on the other hand, shared positive stories of how the facility has helped them.
