Toddler bit by dog suffers serious facial injuries

WASHINGTON -- A young boy suffered facial injuries Friday afternoon after being attacked by a dog in south Everett.

The incident was reported about 4:20 p.m. along 75th Street SW, Everett police spokesman Aaron Snell said. The dog was believed to be a pit bull, he said.

The toddler was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. He appeared to be about a year old, Snell said.

The dog didn't belong to the boy's family, Snell said. It wasn't clear where the dog went after the incident, or who owns the animal.

Police are investigating. Preliminary information suggested the child was bitten once and was not a mauling-type attack, Snell said. Initial reports from the scene misstated the child's gender.

The extent of the boy's injuries weren't immediately known, but they weren't believed to be life-threatening, Snell said.
