Bozeman police officer shoots, kills dog

MONTANA -- After reportedly being charged twice by a dog, a Bozeman police officer shot and killed the animal.

It happened Sunday night at the Wagon Wheel trailer park near West Main Street when police received a call of loud music coming from one of the trailers.

An officer responded and knocked on the door.

Police say the music was so loud the officer began yelling, trying to get the attention of anyone in the trailer, and that's when a pit bull came running out.

According to police, the dog charged the officer, baring its teeth.

The second time the dog charged, the officer shot the dog once, killing it.

Police say the owner of the dog then became unruly, yelling at his neighbors for calling the police.

He was arrested and faces misdemeanor disorderly conduct charges.

Bozeman police will investigate the shooting, as they do any time an officer's gun is discharged.

Authorities have not released the name of the police officer or the dog's owner at this time.
