Jude Keir, nine, needed 40 stitches and only survived the attack because two people dragged the dog away from him. The animal’s owners were not prosecuted.
And a two-and-a-half year fight for compensation has ended in what Jude’s dad Derek calls “an insult”.
Derek is backing the Daily Record’s campaign for changes in the law to stop youngsters being savaged by dogs.
He said: “If nothing is done, more children will be attacked. We cannot let that happen.”
After we launched the campaign yesterday, Alex Salmond revealed he wants to meet the family of Broagan McCuaig, who was mauled by two American bulldogs last month.
The First Minister said: “Scotland has strict measures in place to deal with dangerous dogs. But if there are ways in which they can be improved, we will be more than willing to explore them.”
