Tucson woman says pit bull attacked her dog, wants owner to come forward

ARIZONA -- A Tucson woman is recovering tonight after she and her dog were allegedly mauled by a pit bull. It happened in a neighborhood on the far Southwest side near Ajo and Camino Verde.

Sheila LeMaster says she was walking her dog when a pit bull attacked them. "I look forward to coming home to her and she does with me, she's so happy," said LeMaster.

 

That happiness quickly turned into terror when the two went for a walk on Tucson's west side. Both ended dup at the mercy of a vicious pit bull- one LeMaster says was trying to kill Shelly.

"He just jumped on her, grabbed her neck and she pulled back and yelped," said LeMaster.

LeMaster kept hitting the pit bull trying to save her own dog, Shelly. She now has bruises on her hand. "Thinking I couldn't help her, wanting to save her, thinking she was going to die," said LeMaster.

But, even when the former Greyhound race dog tried running for her life, the pit bull continued chasing Shelly. "I just kept running and beating on somebody's door," said LeMaster.

It wasn't until a neighbor stepped in, pinning the pit bull. The dog is now in quarantine and the recovery process is beginning. "It's a possibility she could lose her leg," said LeMaster.

Tucson News Now reached out to Pit 'N Proud, a local pit bull advocacy group, who wasn't available for an on-camera interview. But, it points fingers not at the breed, instead the environment the dog lives in.

LeMaster is hoping the owner of the pit bull will come forward because she can't afford the vet bills by herself.
