Vineland police shoot 'aggressive' pit bull near high school

NEW JERSEY -- City police shot a pit bull Monday morning, according to authorities, after reports of it running loose at the Vineland High School South building.

Vineland Police Juvenile Detective Brad Marchesano investigated the incident and found the pit bull on Brewster Road, according to authorities.

Animal Control Officer James Branin shortly arrived at a property on the 400 block of South Brewster Road to assist Marchesano in capturing the dog.

As Marchesano approached the back of the house, the dog suddenly came around the corner, police said, and lunged aggressively at him.

There was a struggle, according to reports, as the detective attempted to move out of the way of the dog but the dog continue to attack.

Marchesano was then forced to fire his weapon at the dog, police said, striking the animal in the mouth. The dog survived, fled behind the house with a bleeding mouth and was finally contained by Branin.

Authorities advised the dog’s owner, Sabash Badger, of the incident and the dog is still currently receiving treatment for its injury.
