MISSOURI -- Police arrested a 23-year-old man Thursday for allegedly breaking into his girlfriend's residence in October and killing one of her cats, according to a probable cause statement.
Matthew G. Greaver of Columbia also is accused, in separate cases, of harassing the woman in November after their relationship had ended and breaking a security camera at her previous residence.
Greaver was charged with two felonies — second-degree burglary and animal abuse — and two misdemeanors — harassment and second-degree property damage. He is being held at the Boone County Jail on a $107,500 bond. Boone County Circuit Court security arrested him at 2:54 p.m. yesterday.
On Oct. 14, according to the statement, Greaver allegedly went into the woman's residence in the 1400 block of East Walnut without her knowledge and killed one of her cats by "assaulting the cat and causing internal injuries."
He also allegedly tried to drown another cat.
About one month earlier, the statement said, Greaver's girlfriend left town and had him take care of her cats. One of the cats was dead when she returned, and Greaver said moving boxes fell on it.
The harassment charge stems from unwanted communication on social media the woman received from Greaver. The woman in November told him repeatedly to cease the communication after the end of their 18-month relationship, another probable cause statement said. Greaver allegedly threatened to kill himself or distribute nude pictures of her if she did not respond to him.
