Eight animals rescued from squalid Pacific Grove home available for adoption

CALIFORNIA -- Eight of the 22 animals rescued earlier this month from squalid conditions at a Pacific Grove home are now up for adoption.

Officials with the SPCA for Monterey County rescued 14 dogs, puppies and four cats from a home filled with clothing, trash, garbage, animal feces and urine.  The animal rescuers said the smell of ammonia from the urine was so overpowering it stung their eyes and caused breathing troubles.

 

 

The house, designated as a historic home by the Heritage Society of Pacific Grove, has since been declared uninhabitable.

Seven of the dogs and one of the cats are now available for adoption, and more are expected to be available soon. Adopters have to agree to make the pet or information about the pet available if it's needed for the potential criminal case.

The SPCA has submitted the case to the Monterey County District Attorney's Office for consideration of charging the resident with multiple counts of criminal animal neglect. Charges have not been filed at this time.
