NEW YORK -- A Mamaroneck man was charged with animal cruelty after he left a dog locked in a hot car with the windows up while attending a concert at Bethel Woods, state police said.
The charge against Michael C. Star, 52, comes less than a week after the Putnam SPCA warned people about leaving dogs in hot cars.
Several people attending the Steve Miller Band/Journey concert Tuesday evening approached state troopers to say a dog was locked in a hot vehicle in the venue's parking lot with no owner to be found, police said. The incident happened on a day when the high temperature neared the mid-80s.
Troopers found a poodle in the locked car with the windows up and no food or water, police said.
Troopers got into the car and removed the dog, named Milo, who appeared in good health despite the ordeal, police said.
Police left a note on the car, and Star, the dog's owner, went to the state police command center after the concert.
He was charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty and ordered to return to Bethel Court on June 30, police said.
