Animal hoarding suspect appears in court

MISSOURI -- A Blue Summit woman accused of hoarding dogs made her first appearance in court Wednesday.

A judge released 55-year-old Shirley Lafferty on bond as long as she doesn't have contact with any animals or any rescue organizations.

If she violates these conditions, Lafferty will be remanded back into custody.

Almost 90 dogs have been rescued from the unlicensed organization called Black Dog Rescue that Lafferty ran.  Authorities said she was keeping the dogs in deplorable conditions inside her home.

Lafferty is scheduled to be back in court in May.
