Augusta and Burdett Crandall both were found guilty in Wadsworth Municipal Court of two counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty. Sentencing will be done after a background check.
The dogs were confiscated Aug. 26 by the Medina County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Both dogs have recovered and will be available for adoption after finishing their lessons with dog trainers.
Andor, a 7-year-old pit bull, was near death when Humane Officer Mary Jo Johnson found him at the couple's home. He had no muscle tissue left and collapsed when he tried to walk, she said then.
Andor was transferred to dog trainer Steffen Baldwin, of Animal Cruelty Task Force of Ohio, where the emaciated pit bull quickly recovered physically and has nearly completed his social training.
Abu, a 3-year-old boxer, was in slightly better shape and landed at North Coast Boxer Rescue, where he is still working on anxiety issues, his foster mother said.

Medina County SPCA attorney DanaMarie Pannella said, "We would like to see the couple sentenced to some time in jail, five years of probation, random inspections, $5,304 in restitution for veterinary expenses and an order that they never have dogs again."
Judge Stephen McIlvaine will make that decision after a pre-sentence investigation is completed by his probation department.
Soon after The Plain Dealer first reported the story, the nonprofit SPCA received financial donations that covered the dogs' veterinary bills and special food they had to eat for a month, shelter manager Tracey Miller said. Donations beyond those expenses were sent to the two rescue groups that took over the dogs' rehabilitation.
Anyone interested in adopting Andor can call ACT Ohio at 1-888-228-6974. Abu is not yet ready for adoption.
