Cat rescued from drain pipe after being stuck for days

FLORIDA -- Officials and several South Florida citizens rescued a cat who, they said, may have been stuck in a storm drain for more than 24 hours.

Several residents who normally feed stray cats said they heard cries coming from a nearby drain at Northwest Seventh Street and 57th Avenue and called for assistance.

Officials believed the cat, given the name Venom, fell into a pipe that runs towards a nearby Walgreens, but several attempts were shot down as the cat avoided all rescue efforts.

City of Miami officials said they attempted to rescue Venom Monday evening but were unsuccessful.

Miami-Dade officials, a private plumbing company and several Good Samaritans are currently on the scene to help rescue the cat.

Officials used low water pressure to help push the cat out but those attempts were unsuccessful.

Efforts then ceased once they became aware that there were pockets inside the drain where the cat could be hiding to avoid the water.

A monitor was set up and a camera placed in the pipe in an effort to get a visual on the cat and its location.

It is believed that the cat entered into a side pipe. Officials attempted to unhook the side pipe to cut the cat off from moving any further away.

Rescuers were close to exhausting all possible options and veterinarian staff were on the scene when the cat was rescued. The cat is now in the care of veterinarians.
