TENNESSEE -- A Maryville woman wants to know who shot her dog. That’s after she admits she falsely accused the Blount County Sheriff’s office for taking part.
“I just can’t put together why somebody would want to hurt my dog,” said Patty Brennan.
Brennan and her husband, Terry, claim their Great Pyrenees, Bailey, was shot over the weekend.
They noticed on Sunday that the five-year-old dog was missing some hair in the front and didn’t think anything of it, but then noticed something else.
“On further inspection, she had another hole in the back of her head and that’s when I realized she had been shot. It was a bullet hole through her head,” said Brennan.
Originally, they blamed the Blount County Sheriff’s Office for it on Facebook and got more than 1,000 shares.
In response to that accusation, the sheriff’s office released a copy of their dash cam video on Monday. In the video, a deputy notices an abandoned truck in the middle of the road on Sunday morning.
That truck belonged to Brennan’s husband and it slid down the driveway from the ice. The deputy then knocks on their door telling them what happened and later on Brennan asked about her dogs.
“Are the dogs out there?,” said Brennan.
“I certainly hope not. What kind of dogs you have?,” said the deputy.
“Great Pyrenees,” said Brennan.
After taking a look at the 16 minute video, Brennan doesn’t believe the sheriff’s office is responsible anymore. She’s now trying to figure out who would hurt her dog.
“If I accuse somebody wrongly, then I’m really, really sorry. I don’t want to accuse the wrong person. I’m really just hurting,” said Brennan.
Brennan told WATE 6 On Your Side she took the dog to the vet on Monday. The vet told them that the bullet went right through the dog’s sinuses.
Bailey is also on antibiotics and pain medication while she heals. Brennan said she plans on using a metal detector in her yard to see if she can find any bullet casings.
The Brennan family has also filed a report with the Blount County Sheriff’s Office. If you have any information, you’re asked to call (865) 273-5000.
