NEVADA -- The dog’s owner, Jesse Vonstaden, is in jail facing felony charges in these attacks.
Neighbors are still in shock and sad about the whole situation.
"I heard shots fired and ducked behind the neighbor's pick-up truck there, and peered over it and I could see dogs running around," said neighbor Jim Maehl, who heard the commotion Friday.
Maehl is relieved Metro made an arrest in the pit bull attacks of his neighbors. "It's up to people to take care of their animals and when you have animals that are considered dangerous, which is a shame because in normal circumstances you can take one of those dogs and they can be very good. It's up to the owner to make them what they are," Maehl said.
Vonstaden is in the Clark County Detention Center facing charges of dangerous or vicious dogs, wanton disregard of safety, and traffic warrants.
"The attack on the victim was vicious and I cannot overstate that. As it is, she's 67-years-old. She was out front just like any of us could have been on a weekend, gardening, when she was attacked without provocation from these dogs," said Captain Matt McCarthy with Metro.
The attack happened Friday morning on Looking Glass Lane near Bonanza and Sloan.
A woman identified as Celia Aguilar was attacked with extreme injuries to one arm and her face. The other was Robert Sisterman, who used a baseball bat to get those dogs off the woman, but not before being bitten on the hand.
"It started coming after I hit it with baseball bat," Sisterman told News 3 Friday.
Neighbors we met tell us Sisterman is a hero. "I don't think he even thought about it. He just went and did it," Maehl said.
Police shot one dog and County Animal Control took the others. They say there have been previous complaints about the dogs.
As for Aguilar, her family says she's doing much better after surgery. They were worried she'd lose an eye and possibly an arm. She's still in the hospital in critical condition.
